Echoes of Pompeii Review: A Fascinating Marriage of Art and Music

In early 1971, Adrian Maben had a vision - to merge art and music in a unique way. His initial contact with Pink Floyd's manager Steve O'Rourke led to a meeting where he proposed his idea, 'a marriage of art and the Pink Floyd.' And so, the project was born.

As a fan of their music, Maben found himself fascinated by the group's distinctive sound, which was unlike anything else at the time. He wanted to show how they created their electronic sounds and put them together in a way that would captivate audiences. Pink Floyd's ability to pique his curiosity and intrigue him with their music was exactly what he was looking for.

With this project under his belt, Maben went on to work with other bands, including East Of Eden and Family, but it was his encounter with Pink Floyd that truly sparked his creativity. The experience inspired him to continue pushing boundaries in the world of rock films.

Shot on 35mm film, Live At Pompeii was originally made for television, featuring the band performing in an amphitheater with some Top Of The Pops-inspired shots of them walking around Vesuvius and other scenic locations. According to Roger Waters, it's simply 'us playing a load of tunes' - but that's what makes this film so special.
